Expecting further more anxiously ..
I went to shivannasamudra and talakkad last weekend. The route is one of the worst roads I have seen in my life. The roads are somewhat Ok from Blore to Kanakapura. After that, the rest 70 Kms is totally worst. People travelling on their own vehicles to these picnic spots, pls reconsider your decision. It took around 4 hrs to cross 70 kms from kanakapura to shivannasamudra.
Take Mysore road till Maddur and take the left from the Junction. From here its around 30km to shivanasamudram. This road is awesome with lakes and green stretch of paddy fields

I had been to Shivanasamudra and Talakkadu last week (August 2006). Gaganachukki & Barachukki are Awesome, Fantastic and more
But Roads after Maddur to Shivanasumudram and road to Talakkadu were worst, Please don’t take your own vehicle.
On my way to talakkadu, A person in a santro car stoped to check distance to Shivanasumudra, His face had a big Question Mark ?. I did not realise at that time (just started towords talakkadu), After treaking(litrally on my car)to Talakkadu, I did realise his Question Mark face after me reaching talakkadu.
Every weekend morning the first thng i do is to search for places to go around, and for the first time this has given me the full list ,with info abt the place, the drive and lots….
I did go there 6 months back , the road from Maddur all the way to Talakadu in horrible condition , the road at malavalli can contest for a guinness record for bad road.
There was some news of road getting repaired for the “once 12 year festival” at talakadu.
Not sure what progress has been done.
Deepak..
Been to shivanasamudram on Jul-22-2007. Both the falls are simply superb. Dont miss the view of the gaganchukki from Darga. You can go very close to falls from Darga and it is quite safe too.
Agree about the road, road from Kanakapura to Malvalli around 65-70 Kms is horrible. But from Malvalli to Shivanasamudarm around 20Kms is brand new and is pleasure to drive.
The experience of falls is worth the price paid for a bad drive.
Enjoy it make sure you go there only after reading the newspapers when they announce water is released from upstream dams during peak monsoons.

We went to Shivanasamudra during May 2008. The best way to reach is to go by Mysore Road and then take a left after Maddur. The road from Maddur to Shivanasamudra was being laid that time and so it tooks a good while. But now (August 2008) the roads must be laid and should be pretty good now.
We went on a one day trip to Kokkarebellur, Somnathpur and Shivanasamudra. This can be easily done on one day if you leave early. All the three places are a must vist if you are nearby Bangalore.
Contact me at emailcontact@gmail.com if you need any further info in these places.

Thank you for nice article. But I had difficulty navigating through your web site because I kept getting 502 bad gateway error. Just thought to let you know.
Thank you for letting me know, Walte Call. This could be some temporary communication error that should get fixed.
