Talkad is another place on the banks of Kaveri ideal for a day trip or picnic. One would be surprised to see seashore like sandy banks here. You will miss the waves though.
People often come here in big groups to spend some time in the wide-open area on the banks, play some games and spend a good time. If you wish to, you can wade through neck deep waters and walk to the other side of the river in summers. You can also hire coracles and take a short trip on the river. Talkad also hosts some historical temples just a short walk from the riverbank, recently unearthed by archeological department.

The road to Talkad runs right next to the river for a considerable distance. The water you see here are surprisingly deep turquoise like the sea. To reach Talkad from Bangalore, take Mysore road and drive till Maddur and turn left. The road from Maddur is narrow and not in good condition but manageable. Nearby places to visit include Shivanasamudra falls.

Talkad is a place worth going when one is planning to spend a day out of Bangalore rush. But the road condition for about 20-30 km is in very bad condition.It will take almost 3 hrs to reach to Talkad from Bangalore by your own vehicle. One can enjoy the nature’s beauty over here. And you need not carry food with u…if your starting point is bangalore…as you will get it in your way..and also on the riverside of kaveri in Talkad. A place worth going.
Talkad is not worth driving down on that jerky road unless you combine it with Shivanasamudram or even drive further up to BR hills. This place is good for an hour or two, not for a full day.

Talkad is a really beautiful place and one of the must see places around bangalore.. But the road to talkad is very very bad.. be prepared for a bumpy ride… but the place is worth visiting.. Dont miss the cauvery river at Talkad you will have a good time … Its a perfect place if you are lookin for one day trip from bangalore…. you can take the mysore road and take a deviation from maddur.. its a 3 hour journey from bangalore… And also you can vistit Somnathpura temple which is close by to talkad abuot 30 km from talkad.
