BALMURI FALLS

October 17, 2005

If you watch Kannada movies, you have most likely seen this place in one or the other movie. A small checkdam constructed here across Kaveri has made this an excellent pinic rendezvous. In late winter and summer, shallow water running on the dam platform and the falling water attracts people in plenty. It is fun to sit under the fall and let the falling water give a massage your back. Good time to visit is winter season when there is just enough water in the river. Balmuri is very close to Ranganathittu and both of them can be covered together in a day.

Rather than Balmuri, I will suggest “Edmuri Falls” which is less than a kilometre away from Balmuri. It is just that there is no security (localites told me that there are lifters there), for the bike or for bags etc. But if you came by a car, you dont have to worry about anything. Edmuri Falls is way better than Balmuri Falls.

Bulmuri falls is not a falls, it’s dam, don’t expect more as water falls from the mountain. You can bath in the dam if the water is more otherwise stagged water only will be there.

i really wondered by the name falls. on what basis they named it I m still confused. I will rate 1 out of 5. I personally wont suggest this place. May be the season i went was wrong. I went here last February-March.

Go to this place now (August 2008) when the KRS is just about full. This fall is the perfect definition of “Waterfall Model”. If you are in software you will understand what I mean.

The Cauvery as it flows loses some height here in a step like fashion and it is an awesome view. Many movies have been shot here just for this view.

One of the fun things to do here is, sit on a rock just below one of the steps and try to go behind the water as the water falls in front of you. Breathe through your mouth when you do this. It is an awesome experience.

If you are scared of water dont try this. Also, there could be good current now. Make a good judgement whether to get in to the water or not. Follow the locals advice as they exactly know the best spots to get into the water.

Nravi.
