Google Maps has finally added feature to get driving directions in India. When I first heard about it, I expected it to work only for directions between major cities and within large cities. But it turned out better than I thought. I wasn’t expecting to get any results when I searched for driving directions from Bangalore to the tiny village of Talakad. They beat me there.
It does seem to have some shortfalls when it comes to finding directions within the city. The system doesn’t handle one-ways well. It doesn’t make good distinction between main roads and narrower roads, but simply gives the shortest path available.
Below is the result when I searched for driving directions from Bangalore to Madikeri.
To look for driving directions, go to http://maps.google.com/ and click on ‘Get Directions’ links.

And I will still get lost
I think you should check out the new MapmyIndia.com website, they also have driving directions. Better still, I would say a stand alone GPS navigator, works better than all internet based driving directions. But then that is my thought.
So did you go the Jungle Lodge?
Shiva
Lakshmi, good job at being consistent
Shiva, thanks for the tip. Will check it out. Did not get your comment on Jungle Lodges.
unfortunately driving directions in cities like Bangalore keep changing every day- each day some roads are dug up, some new flyover/underpass proposed, roads are made one way, diversions introduced…
