I have been mostly home and quiet since my Shimla trip. I have made a few short journeys though – a weekend trip to Chikmagalur and another one to Coorg on work. One more is soon to follow this weekend, where I am taking a group of travellers to Coorg (more details here).
But my wishlist for near future is long, like a wishlist always is. I have been hatching a plan to spend two weeks in Madhya Pradesh, but it is not concrete yet. With the arrival of winter visitors, I intend to do some bird watching and photography in the western ghats, hopefully in Dandeli in surrounding areas. I also wish to make a trip to the coast of Karnataka and photograph winter landscapes by the sea. Gokarna is one place I can think of, where I can spend days and days. A friend is also tempting me for a short trek in the Himalayas.
Only yesterday, I saw some images from Sandakphu and wondered how I never knew much about this magical place. I don’t think there are many places on earth from where you can get clear views of both Kanchenjunga and Everest.
In the meanwhile, I am doing short birding outings out of the city and am tempted to do more and more of it. Just outside the urban expanse is such a rich variety of birds, one can easily spend the entire winter just looking for them.
Most likely I will begin making some travel plans once I am back from the TravelWise trip to Coorg. Of course, ideally I would like to be in all these places, but winter is short and when the summer comes, it is time to stay home. I will keep you updated as things start rolling.

Hey Arun, in case you do make it to MP, an absolutely magical spot is the little river town and fort of Orchha. Especially fascinating is the thriving vulture population there, and if you stay in the Fort or visit one of the royal Chhatri’s you get brilliant views of these graceful birds when airborne. That said, they’re downright ugly when they’re wobbling about on land.
Thanks for the tip, Shawn. If I make it to MP, I would not want to miss Orchha for anything else. Did not know about the vultures there. Will be happy to see them airborne as well as on ground.
