Photo Essay: Qutub Minar, Delhi
Monday, May 12, 2008
I spent a quick evening wandering around Qutub Minar in Delhi, while I was on my way to Rajasthan a couple of months ago. We did not have much time, and spent the evening wandering in the enclosure, without trying to know much of the history or intricacies of the monument. So I don't have anything to say on it, and it makes no sense to describe something in words when there are pictures to do the talking. Here we go.Map: Location of Qutub Minar in Delhi

The last picture - I was about to take a picture of this plaque for my records before leaving the place. This little girl, I don't know where she was, came and stood right in front of it as though she is posing, and gave a shy, innocent smile. She stood there hardly for a second or two while I quickly clicked.

Thank you Matt.
hey, liked the second and the fourth pic..remimded me of the time when I was staying in mehrauli ,down the qutub minar for abt 15 days in 1992..scary trip as I was caught in a curfew during the babri masjid time .In fact had just landed in del on Dec 5, 92 and couldnt get back home..used to go to qutub minar virtually every evening..ironically never been there after that

I quite like the place too. I wonder what the Alai Minar would've looked like if they had come around to completing it.
Nice pictures, Arun.
Thank you Laxmi. It is quite a big place good enough to spend many evenings; something I had not known before seeing the place.
@anil, thank you. It looked too large to me, I doubt if it would ever have completed. And as far as I can see, in those times, people in these parts did not seem to have the engineering skills like they had in building tall gopuras in south.
